Celebrate Honolulu Pride at Saturday’s parade and festival

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Honolulu Pride is taking over Waikiki Saturday and for the first time ever, the festivities will begin in the afternoon.
The Honolulu Pride Parade kicks off at 4 p.m. from the Magic Island entrance to Ala Moana Regional Park, proceeds down Ala Moana Boulevard, onto Kalakaua Avenue, and ends at Kapiolani Park.
Over 4,000 participants are expected, including floats, bands, trolleys, and walkers from businesses, nonprofit organizations, social groups, government agencies and more.
Then starting at 5 p.m., the Honolulu Pride Festival gets underway at the Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell.
Attendees will enjoy performances by headliners Marina Summers and Nymphia Wind from World of Wonder’s RuPaul’s Drag Race, neighbor island pride groups, and more.
Prior to this year, the parade was held in the morning.
“We heard that it was hot, so we thought you know what, let’s push it to nighttime,” said Lord Ryan Lizardo, Honolulu Pride Festival chair. “We’re really excited to just experiment with what it looks like at night.
“We’re going to have some really cool activations that you’ll be able to see, different things, lights that we get to have fun with this year,” Lizardo said, “so my hope is that it’s a great thing for the community, and you all see something new.”
The Honolulu Pride Parade and Festival is hosted by the Hawaii LGBT Legacy Foundation.
